The youth at Thalia UMC have many fun events planned for the month of May. We will have two youth group meetings this month (5/6 & 5/20). As always, middle school will meet from 4-5pm, free dinner from 5-6pm, and high school from 6-7pm. We will have a car wash on May 5th from 9-12. All students attending the Summer Mission trip are required to attend the car wash. On Sunday, May 6th, the youth will be selling baked goods between services. All proceeds will benefit this summer’s mission trip. LOGOS, our Bible study, will meet on Wednesday, May 2nd from 7:30-8:30pm. Please note that LOGOS will NOT meet May 9th, and starting May 15th LOGOS will meet on Tuesdays from 7-8pm. The Youth will be participating in the Helping Hands event on May 19th. Happy New Year!!!

Everything will start the Week of January 8th.

Here's an overview of what January will look like for the Youth at Thalia UMC:

  • Confirmation is an 11 week study on the Methodist faith as well as the Christian faith as a whole. Confirmation will be held during the Sunday School hour (9:45am Sunday morning) in the youth room. All youth in 6th grade or older who haven't been confirmed are invited to attend.
  • We will have 2 youth sessions this month (January 8th, January 22nd). Middle School will meet from 4-5, dinner will be served from 5-6 and high school will meet from 6-7.
  • LOGOS- Our Bible Study (LOGOS) will be MOVED this semester... it will now be held from 7:30-8:30 on Wednesday nights! It will start January 11th and we will meet the 18th and the 25th.
  • Retreat- The retreat formally known as the Blackstone retreat will be held January 27th from 29th at Goshen, Va. You will need to meet at the church at 4:30 to be ready to leave at 5!! Cost is $115 if you register before December 15th and $125 if you register after the 15th.

We have had a wonderful fall season and are looking forward to all of our youth events in the winter. We will have one regular youth group this month on December 4th (4-5 middle school, 5-6 dinner, 6-7 high school).  There will be two Bible study sessions this month on December 7th and the 14th from 7-8pm.  We will have two Sunday play practices this month (December 4th and 11th) during the Sunday school hour. On December 10th we will have a dress rehearsal for our play from 1-2:30pm. If you are participating in the play it is mandatory that you attend the dress rehearsal.  On December 11th we will have our Christmas Play Performance and our Christmas party. The performance starts at 4:00 so all actors must be at the Church by 3:00. After the play we will have our annual Christmas party which involves our Gingerbread house decorating competition! Hope you all are enjoying this beautiful fall! Here are our event dates for November:

  • Starting November 6th we will hold practice for our Christmas play every Sunday during the Sunday School hour. Our play, Broadcasting Christmas, is open to all students k-12. We will be performing our play on Sunday, December 11th at 4pm.
  • We will have Youth group on November 13th; middle school 4-5, free dinner 5-6, and high school 6-7.
  • We will have Bible Study every Wednesday night from 7-8pm except for November 23rd.
  • Our fall retreats will be held in Duck, NC. For both retreats we will leave the Church at 5 pm on friday and return on Sunday. The High School retreat will be November 11th -13th and the Middle School retreat will be November 18th-20th. The middle school students will leave Duck early on the 20th in order to make it back for our Operation Christmas Child event.
  • Operation Christmas Child- We will be packaging boxes for OCC from 12:30- 2 on Sunday November 20th. We will provide lunch immediately following the 11:00 service.
  • There will be no youth group or play practice on Sunday November 27th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

October 2011

Happy fall! We are so excited to announce our October events:

  • We will have youth every Sunday night except for Sunday, October 30th. Middle school meets from 4-5 FREE DINNER from 5-6 and High school meets from 6-7. All events are held in the youth room.
  • We will have Bible Study every Wednesday night from 7-8 pm in the youth room. We are currently studying the book of Luke. Come join us!
  • We will have a lock-in October 28th at 6pm - October 20th at 9am. During this lock in we will be helping Virginia Beach UMC's Clothes Closet by sorting clothes that our Church has donated. Please bring a friend and a snack to share!
  • We will be participating in this year's Holy Ghost Weenie Roast which is October 30th from 5-7pm. The youth are asked to come at 1 to help set up.
  • We will sell Yankee Candle starting October 23rd. Ask Sarah for more information!

We are very excited here at TUMC for all of our upcoming fall events. The youth group has so many exciting things happening in the month of September! We start the 2011-2012 school year with a Back-to-school bowling blast! This will take place on 9/11 from 4-6 at Pin Boys on Laskin Road. Cost is $5 and it includes games and food! Make sure you sign up on the director’s door or let me know you are coming! LOGOS (our Bible Study) will meet every Wednesday this month from 7-8pm in the Youth Room. We are currently studying the book of Luke and would love to have you join us! Regular youth programs start back on September 18th and continue on the 22nd with Middle School Youth Fellowship (MSYF) meeting from 4-5, free dinner for all from 5-6, and High School Youth Fellowship from 6-7. Our theme this semester focuses on being an Out of the Boat Christian.  Our big event this month is our OVER NIGHTER at Laser Quest on September 30th!!! We are asking that the kids be dropped off at Laser Quest (2682 Dean Drive, Va Beach) at 11:30pm on the 30th and picked up at 7 am on the 1st. Cost is $15 but it includes snacks and ALL NIGHT LASER TAG WOOOOOO!!!!!!! We are so excited to see you and for you to bring your friends to all of these events!! Happy August!!!!

This month we will have 2 Bible studies, a week of Music Theater Camp (8/8-8/12), a Lock-in (8/19 at 6pm-8/20 at 9am (dinner is included)), Mission week (8/22, 8/24,8/26 from 9-2 (See Sarah for more details)), and a bowling back to school party 8/28 from 4-6 (Pin Boys on Laskin Road). We have an exciting month planned and hope to see you at any/all of these events!!! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Hello! I can't believe that the summer is here already!! We have TONs of amazing events here for the youth of Thalia UMC!!

  • Bible Study- we will meet 4 times in the month of June (6/1, 6/8, 6/22 and 6/29). For almost each Bible Study we will meet from 7-8pm in the youth room. On June 8th we will celebrate the end of the school year by meeting at the Panera in the Pembroke mall area (7-8pm).
  • We will have another Baking for a bake sale session June 11th from 2-5pm. If you are attending the mission trip we expect to see you here!
  • Yahoo to Summer Luau!!!!- We will have our big end of the school year bash on June 12th from 4-7pm. We will have a giant waterslide, bouncy house, snow cones, raffles and much more!! Please bring a side dish to share, a friend, and money for our amazing raffle baskets.  My parents have generously donated their beach house again this year. For $5 you can stay at a house in the Outer Banks for a WEEK!!! All proceeds from the raffles will go towards Children and Youth Programs here at Thalia UMC.
  • There will be a VERY IMPORTANT mission trip meeting June 12th at 3:00. All parents and students who are attending the trip are expected to attend this meeting.
  • We will NOT have youth group at the regular times during the summer. Please check the youth calendar for all of our exciting summer events!!

May 2011

We are SO excited to announce our events for the month of May!!! For the next few months our fun event will center around raising money for our Summer Mission Trip. If you haven't signed up for it yet make sure to see Sarah ASAP!!! We will be building a house in Lake Junaluska, NC from July 17th- 21st! Here are our events for May:

  • We will have 2 regular Youth meetings this month on May 1st and May 15th. There will be NO youth events on the 8th and 29th due to Mother's day and Memorial Day.
  • On May 22nd we will have Youth Sunday (the youth will take over the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services and run them!!) Following Youth Sunday we will have a Princess and Pirate party with the Children's group! Everyone needs to dress up as either a princess or a pirate and be prepared to play some games! Food will be provided.
  • We will have Bible Study EVERY Wednesday this month from 7-8pm.
  • On May 21st we will do a run through for the worship service at 10 followed by our Car Wash/ Baking for Bake Sale from 11-2.
  • There will be 3 Capernaum Meetings this month on Thursdays from 6:30-8 in the Large Hall.

We are so excited to tell you about our upcoming events!! This month we will have youth as usual (middle school 4-5, dinner 5-6, high school 6-7) on April 3rd and 10th. We will have 3 Bible Studies this month from 7-8 on the 6th, 13th, and 27th. We will also be participating in an Easter Egg Hunt/ Potluck Lunch on Sunday, April 17th from 12:30-2! Capernaum will meet twice this month at Thalia on the 7th and 14th from 6:30-8pm. We hope you all have a FABULOUS month and stay safe over Spring Break!
