Thalia United Methodist Men
Methodist Men News
Welcome
The Methodist Men of Thalia United Methodist Church welcome you and extend an invitation to all men who want to be a part of a good Christian men's organization involved in doing God's work. We invite you to join us.
Purpose
Thalia United Methodist Men shall be a creative, supportive fellowship of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, to grow spiritually and to seek daily his will. [Our] primary purpose is to declare the centrality of Christ in the lives of men and in all their relationships.
Concerns
- To encourage knowledge of and support for the total mission of The United Methodist Church.
- To engage in evangelism by sharing the fullness of the gospel in its personal and social dimensions.
- To clarify and speak to the identity and role of the man in contemporary society.
- To seek commitment to discipleship.
- To study and become familiar with The United Methodist Church, its organization, doctrines, and beliefs.
- To cooperate with all units of United Methodist Men in obtaining these objectives through district, conference, jurisdiction, and church-wide goals.
Ministries/Programs
Heart Havens
Heart Havens is highlighted in our prayers and support. The VA Conference-sponsored Heart Havens provides fully-functioning homes for mentally handicapped persons who lack a support system. Homes in operation now are: two in Virginia Beach, one each in Powhatan, Colonial Beach, Richmond, Winchester, Kilmarnock, Stuarts Draft, and Waynesboro.
Individual members make private gifts. If you can help in any way contact George Averette at 486-4784
Boy Scouts
Scouting at Thalia United Methodist Church is of great importance and priority. The TUMM sponsor Boy Scout Troop 372, which consists of approximately fourteen (14) young boys twelve (12) through eighteen (18) years of age. We also sponsor Cub Pack 372, that consist of boys seven (7) through eleven (11) years of age.
The training and guidance received by these young people will be invaluable during their life's journey. We encourage every parent with a son or daughter seven (7) through eighteen (18) years of age to enroll them in a scouting program.
Youth
Our youth are our future. The TUMM recognize that our youth must be trained and guided in the ways of our Lord to become fishers of men and good citizens. Last year, we provided our church's youth programs funds in the amount of $500.00, for retreats and trips to enhance their spiritual faith, fellowship with others, and good citizenship. Last year, we sent one youth to Mexico to help build a house for a family with no place to live.
