Evangelism

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.  Matthew 28: 19-20

Our congregation is a community of Christian people organized to carry out God's mission for the Church as defined in Matthew 28:19-20. Each member of the Church is called to minister to all people by:

  • Reaching out into the community surrounding the congregation and receiving into the
family of faith all who respond.
  • Encouraging people in their relationship with God and inviting them into a commitment
to God's love in Jesus Christ.
  • Providing opportunities for people to be nurtured and to practice the disciplines of faith.
  • Supporting people to live and act as faithful disciples in ministry to the world.

The Evangelism Ministry Team helps Thalia UMC fulfill its mission through these outreach ministries:

Shepherding Program: This discipleship network is designed to make the church's ministry more effective by meeting and greeting visitors as well as encouraging our regular members. Our shepherds, located in various parts of the church, utilize our weekly pew attendance forms.
New Member Dinners: New Member Dinners are held several times a year. New members and their Barnabas sponsors are invited to come for food, fellowship and to learn more about Thalia's ministries.
Barnabas Ministry: Our Barnabas sponsors mentor new members for about six weeks, helping them to become involved in the life of our church so that they can become an integral part of the body of Christ.
Alpha Course: A practical introduction to the Christian faith. This course is offered in the spring of each year and is led by the Alpha team. Recommended for all visitors, new members, and for anyone desiring to explore the basics of Christianity. Click here for more information
Caregivers: A ministry to assist the pastor in reaching out to members of our church who are in need of pastoral care.
Taped Services Ministry: The 11:00 service is taped each Sunday and is available on loan to shut-ins and others. Check out in the library.
The Evangelism Ministry Team meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Young Adult classroom. Anyone interested in participating in these exciting programs or planning future events is welcome to attend. Please contact Joan Averette for more information.
